I am not a vambo but thank God i grew up with vambos and learned oshivambo at school. i am real tired of people saying i am a vambo even if i tell them i am not and that i look like them, i wonder how do they tel if some1 is a vambo just by looking at a person? why do they have to conclude and some will even tell u that u are showing off and dont want to admit ur tribe. It realy make me sad that everywhere i go, taxi etc some1 have to talk to me in oshiwambo, what if i never new any word in oshivambo?
Dont u think its better to hear and believe from the person him?her self which tribe do they belong? What make them sure that this person belong to this tribe if they are not puting on something showing the tribe?

Thanks Angel for understanding dear. ownlicious i grew up in Ruacana and that is not owambo ok!!! i am in Whk and experience that and Whk is not ovambo or is it? learn to understand and if it was my problems why did u reply 2 my post?

Hate, I had a similar experience with Xhosas, but I can't even construct a simple Xhosa sentence, I wish I could. Atleast you can speak Oshiwambo, you should be proud that you are a liquistic. People that forces you mean no harm, they just want to associate with you. Its rather unfortunate that some think you are pretending.
Anyway what would you call those people who were born and raised in Owamboland and can speak fluent Oshiwambo but their parents are for example Kimbundus, Himbas, Indians etc. To me they are just Wambos.

thanks all I am a Zemba and thats all. y should i be forced 2 be a vambo if i am not? it might not be a big problem 4 1 to talk 2 me in oshivambo but what if i had no experince of that lang?
I cannot cal a himba, herero or whatever a vambo just because they are raised in ovamboland.
please ppl dont tell me Whk is also ovamboland.

Sometimes i fail to understand people who forced others to be whoever, simply by looking at a person. I have undergone through the same trauma and i was pissed off to such a level that instead of telling the person to **** off, i had to walk away without finishing what i had to do! One guy found me in town a month ago and he was talkng to me in Otjiherero! i replied where i understand and kept quiet where i dont! The guy start shouting at me that i am showing off, that i am a full herero and have seen and met me at Otjiserandu. Gosh, i dont even know where that place is! i was mad!
Do the outer appearance of the person tell who the person is? i get confused sometimes!

Ah you rhymes, what are you talking about. ovambo myt dominate in terms of evrything from politics to football, ya we give them credit but can never wish to be a vambo. pure africans are proud of their tribes and do not envy others or dream that if i were a ....
i as vmboy wish i cud speak oshiwambo but do not want to be a pure vambo because of the differencies in lifestyle.
understood rhymes! even san people the one who are the most marginalised tribe do not wish to be of any other tribe. get real rhymes.

I understand your concern Hate, i also experience the same situation. They think am a vambo and talk to me in oshiwambo. They even get surprised when they know am not from their tribe claiming i look like one of them. But i don't take to my heart really, it does not bother, maybe i have met those who understand me when i tell them am from another tribe. One guy wanted to try his to force admit that am a vambo, but i started talking my language just to be rude a bit, and then the coversation just died off because there wasn't nay communication. So don't take to your heart really, i also do the same but luckily i usually ask first if somebody looks like from my tribe.

Thanks Dai and V.m.boy for understanding. now i c am not the only victim Dai, i mean if the person tell u i dont understand or i dont belong 2 that tribe than u shuld understant instead of telling the person that he/she is showing off. i cannot even conclude and say this person is a Zemba if i never met him/her.

Thanks Qdapuka and i got 1 point from ur speach and i will put it in practice, if i tel them i am not than they dont believe and insist than i will talk in my lang 2. U are also right that people should learn to ask before jumping to false conclusions, just because of apearance or behaviours.

dnt worry about tht, i also experienced that. im a full wambo, but weneva i got ot a new place, people alwys call me a kavango, no matter i prove to them by speaking the language, they only say im not speaking the pure oshiwambo. but sinc i was made good at dealing with thngs lyk tht, i wlwys try to ignore and let them have their wrong bilieves. it helps me, coz if u alwys try to prove to them u might end up getting stresses, so my advise is jst: dnt worry with wat they say, as long as you know tht wat they say wll nt lv u wit a wound, carry on wit your life ne! try to take them to wherethy want and you wll see wat you get out of ths, jst try it.
jst put the blv in your mind tht the tribe u r being taken to is also a tribe wit ppl so tht u wl get the inner motivate!!!!!!!
