The Ogongo Campus is rotting
I am a concerned parent who is having a son at Ogongo Agricultural College which is situated in the North. The college falls under the University of Namibia (UNAM). It seems that the campus does not have proper disciplinary procedure and now staff members have started confiscating student’s properties and money. First of all I can’t understand why my son together with other three boys students apparently are being burned from the sport facilities, and told to stay more than 200 meters away from the facilities, while a certain academy that belongs to one staff members of the campus is using the facilities. And the academy is using local people who are not part and puzzle of the campus student.
Secondly last year 2007 there was an internal soccer league that was played and never reached the end. Student contributed money in which I (the parent) gave my son N$100 and he paid. But the league failed, but up to now the money is still not paid back of all those who contributed and the person who is having that money is a staff member who burned my boy from the sports facilities and the owner of the soccer academy. Where is the Money SIR?
Thirdly, in one of the meeting (held somewhere in May) that was held at the campus involving those boys and Unam representative, they suspected one of the boys recording in the meeting using an mp3 player, they took the mp3 from him, saying they are just going to inspect whether there is some records. Up to now the fancy mp3 is not returned to the respective owner. And every time the boy goes to ask for it, he is told that “he is trespassing” and lately he was told he will never receive the electronic device (mp3). I understand that not only does the mp3 cost a whooping N$300, but there is academic documents in which the student has to relate to in order to study and pass his exam. The campus as I am writing now is in the middle of the exam for God’s sake.
The boy even contacted SRC’s and the Dean of Student (overall head) at that campus to no avail. Lastly there is this annual TISAN games and now the whole campus are told they won’t attend. If I may ask “who pays for TISAN trips and food. And UNAM pays N$160 for each students in connection with sport, will these students be given that N$160 since they won’t participate in any sport.
Staff members involved in these cases are misusing their power, and if they are frustrated they must act diplomatic and leave the students alone who are already under academic pressure.
When I was a student before independence one of my teacher she said “In order to shame (LAW) its inadequacy, it’s necessary to act outside the LAW, to pursue natural justice.” And in certain extreme situations the law is inadequate.” Must we really come to this?
But I think the University law and the Country Constitutions adequate.
Desperate parent

Instead of Discipline your son you are coming here defending him!
Have you ask him what happen? And why only those 4.
I wonder if you are a true parent or you are pretending to be one.
Just wondering!!!!!!

It is such a big concern but there are issues that you need consider first as a parent.
1. Have you ever arranged a meeting with any of your boy's teacher, just to find out what is really happening at school?
2. Can you really trust your boy, he might create something for you to keep on pumping money into his pocket?
3. Why these boys are prohibited from entering the sports field, although they have paid?
4. How well do you know that a meeting was held between these boys and the representatives?
5. Why bad things are only happening to these boys, is there something that they have done to cause such hatred?
I know school boys and gals can lie to their parents, especially when they need anything. I was once a student and i know how people use tricks to get money. I have never been to Ogongo and i dont know any1 from there but there are two possibilities: either it is true what the boys are saying or it is not true and if it is true than actions needs to be taken against the Ogongo management team.
And if it is true, why these boys are not taking legal actions against these people, i am sure they all have enough evidence. What do you think as a parent?
Lets debate and see what others are saying

Take note that as a “parent” you have your freedom and rights, but it should not step on other people’s freedom. Your statement “Ogongo campus rotting” , “Ogongo management lacking disciplinary procedures” etc etc …..has bad implication to all Ogongo people including your son. Punishments such as those of “stay away from soccer field” are normally given when students misbehave while participating on sport. What really happen for your son to be banned from playing soccer?
Take note that academic representatives who facilitate sport on educational institutions have the authority to discipline students who may be misbehaving during sport activities just like in the classroom. This is done to help “your son” become a better person who can be able to lead soccer teams one day in the future. And should it be that “your son” truly has been mistreated, please use appropriate channels to solve the problem. To go public on internet will not help you. Please go to Ogongo campus and solve the problem, this is a democratic country you do not need to hide.
Please take note that Ogongo campus is located in the community, and collaboration with these communities in any way possible is one of the aims of the institution to participate in outreach programmes and contribute to community development. The “academy” given the permission from Ogongo management has the right to use the soccer field to develop their skills in sport so that they can contribute one day to National sports. Them too if they misbehave, they should be punished accordingly, just like your son.
If you are sure of your son’s grounds and rationale, please just go to Ogongo and have the problem solved.

how sure are you that the your son told you the trueth. ELDERS WE ARE BUILDING NAMIBIA BY USING TABLE TALK NOT RUSHING TO DO SOMETHING YOU AREN`T SURE OF:
