There will be a massive strike on the 23rd of July (Wednesday). We have been warned by the union leaders not to go near town on this day! They will be out in full force and will be aggressive towards anyone to proof their point! If you do need to drive please be on the look out!!

Apparently they are up in arms regarding the cost of food & fuel, that's why they are warning that if you try to shop that they will hurt you

because they are trying to boycott all shops to make their point!!!!!!! SO DO NOT GO NEAR TOWN ON THE 23rd of JULY (Wednesday)!!!!! It's a country wide strike!*

Please inform as many people as you can*

*Take care*

Police warn on hoax e-mail
17/07/2008 17:45 - (SA)

Verashni Pillay

Johannesburg - Police on Thursday denounced a hoax e-mail which claimed a violent march will take place in CBDs across the country on 23 July.

The e-mail, which came to the attention of the office of the national police commissioner last week, warned people to stay away from city centres on the day.

"The South African Police Service would like to clearly state that this e-mail is a hoax and urge recipients to delete it and not to perpetuate this urban myth," Police spokesperson Sally de Beer said.

The e-mail did not specify which area would be affected. De Beer told News24 she had been receiving calls from panicked citizens over the past week as a result of the e-mail.

"Its just one of those hoaxes where somebody obviously had nothing better to do," she said.

An extract of the e-mail reads: "Apparently they are up in arms regarding the cost of food & fuel, that's why they are warning that if you try to shop they will hurt you cause they are trying to boycott all shops to make their point!!!!!!! SO DO NOT GO NEAR TOWN ON THE 23rd of JULY (Wednesday)!!!!!"

De Beer said she had consulted various sources including Cosatu who all said the e-mail was a hoax.

Cosatu has, however, been holding a series of peaceful mass marches which will culminate nationally on 6 August 2008.

The action began on 9 July in various provinces, according to Cosatu spokesperson Patrick Craven. "But all of them will be peaceful, disciplined and orderly and that?s the main point we want to make," he said.

The march was against job losses caused by the electricity crisis. Marches would take place in Gauteng, Eastern Cape, North West and Limpopo on the 23 July
